Not to sound narcissistic, but I was a pleasure to paint. For once I decided to make a picture that didn't have some grand background and/or stupidly detailed foreground, and I didn't use some repetitive pattern to fill space. And I didn't use a medium that would make the picture take so long that I'd be finished just in time for the heat death of the universe. No, I just painted this fellow I see every day with some clutter and furniture, and I used oil paints, which was a great success. which involved a whole lot of fabric folds. I remember back when I was a wee lad, three months ago, and was a silly naive child, totally ignorant of the properties of folding fabric. And here I am now, a silly naive child, only somewhat ignorant of the properties of folding fabric. And here humanity is, in 2015 A.D., where we have almost totally automated agriculture, found a way to prevent some cancers with a modified form of HIV, created self-driving automobiles, and brought worldwide crime, infant mortality, war, and poverty to an all-time low. We've eradicated smallpox, built the Large Hadron Collider, landed robots on Mars, and invented palm-sized phones that have more access to communication than the president of the United States had ten years ago. Our technology has healed the sick, fed millions of people, and collapsed geography into our pocket. Civilization has expanded man's reach further than it has ever been... But we haven't made a good online tutorial about how to draw folding fabric. I mean, I have some general ideas, but really, I'm just smearing paint around until it looks good. But I digress; I think I make a pretty 17th century noble. Woohoo |
